Disney Party: Fun and Games

Hallo friends!

To stick to the theme of this Disney party, you must have games. Don't lie, you love 'em. Each game can have a Disney theme e.g. Peter Pan or Under the Sea Treasure Hunt

The first game we prepared took place before the tea-party section:

Cupcake Decorating!!

You will need:

  • about 20 cupcakes (as per number of people invited)
  • cupcake decorating essentials (sprinkles, edible flowers etc)
  • icing
  • food colouring
  • prizes (sweets, beauty products etc)

Spilt everyone into 3 or 4 teams and give each group the number of cupcakes as per people in their group. Set out enough tables so that each group has their own. Divide up also cupcake decorating essentials and food colouring so each group have enough. Lay out bowls of icing for everyone to use.

Decide on a couple of your fave Disney movies and time each group so that they have 10 minutes to decorate their cupcakes in the style of chosen themes. At the end of 10 minutes, collect everyone's cupcakes in labelled containers and  ask someone else (unbias extra member) to chose their favourite group. After this has been announced, lay out all the cupcakes on the main table on plates so that when guests come to be seated, they can find the cupcake they decorated.

Treasure Hunt

You will need:

  • prizes (sweets, beauty products etc)
  • disney-related objects [that you can stick clues to]
  • paper & pen (to jot clues)
  • balloons
  • jigsaw puzzle
Print off clues that you think would be appropriate for your game. Divide them equally, order them and colour co-ordinate each set of clues. Go around the house sticking clues to relevant objects that lead to next clue and so on.

Once again, divide guests into around 3 groups. Put the first clues in a balloon (before blowing it up). Give each group a balloon and wait till they figure out what to do with it. Tell them they must use only their clues and keep all clues as they go along (so you know they aren't just looking for random clues). Sit and wait.... The group that come back first should be given the prize.
"Cindy's glass slippers"

Quiz

You will need:

  • notepad & pen
  • paper for groups & pens (optional: something for them to lean on)
  • prizes (sweets, beauty products etc)
  • something to play music from
This game is pretty self explanatory. It can be played when guests are finishing off meal. If you want, you can divide the quiz into sections- e.g. music round: guess the song or e.g. questioning round: average questions about Disney films or e.g. personal round: questions about the birthday girls or e.g. who am I?: clues about Disney characters

Give each group a pen and paper and read out the questions. Either you or an unbias extra member can mark the papers afterwards. Give the winners the prize.

Have fun- think of some of your own ideas!

Disney Party: One-Word: FOOD

Ciao!

Displaying photo 4.JPGToday's post concentrates on the next, highly important part of our party: FOOD!!

The theme we think is best and most obvious for a Disney tea-party is, guess what, Mad Hatter- Alice in Wonderland.

These is really easy and, relating back to previous post, can use really cute labels from the story.
Displaying photo 5.JPG
First, get hold of a table! Depending on the number of people invited, (let's stick with 12) 12 places need to be set [duh].

The table cloth we chose was a really good quality, plain with smart design one cheap from a charity shop. It needn't be great quality though as you might only need it once!

I recommend throw away paper plates- but rather than boring white ones, go for beautiful floral ones, like these from Ikea. Contrasting napkins with simple, suited design bring colour, and coloured plastic/paper cups go best. Cheap plastic cutlery can be acquired in big packs for parties at low prices. Under the cups, we laid faded pola-dot doily-style paper coasters for added awesomeness! You also may want to think about cake stands/ trays to lay the food on.

Next, the food!!

Grab a friend, go to tesco/ pound land/ morrisons and grab everything you can find- own brand is cheapest! This may include:
  • sponge cake
  • biscuits- oreos
  • chocolate buttons
  • sweets
  • jam tarts
  • mini rolls
  • jaffa cakes
  • nutella
  • kipling cakes
  • mini doughnuts
  • cocktail sausages
  • sandwiches- bread, butter, cream-cheese, ham, cucumber
  • scones
  • cupcakes
Drinks in the main meal might include the remainder of the mocktails as well as simple squashes, juices and lemonades.

Yours,
Truly xxx
P.S. I found these beautiful teacups to use for hot chocolate. You could look around some charity shops for them!

Disney Party: Drinks (the non-alcoholic kind)

Howdy!
Displaying photo.JPG
I'm just gonna get straight in with part 3...

For this next part, for when everyone has arrived, we need to think about the socialising stage.

We're talking non-alcholic drinks (sticking to a childish theme) and a place to sit and relax.

By non-alcoholic drinks, we went for Disney- style 'mock-tails':

    Displaying photo 5.JPG
  • Shrek
  • Barbie
  • Frozen
The contents of these were each specified for the movie:

    Displaying photo 3.JPG
  • Shrek: green: mint-flavoured squash (Waitrose)/ lemonade + green food colouring
  • Barbie: pink & floral: lucozade/ pink lemonade/ lemonade + pink food colouring, strawberries & raspberries
  • Frozen: blue & icey: powerade/ lemonade + blue food colouring, blueberries, ice

Displaying photo 4.JPGThe obvious must-haves for these mock-tails are cocktail glasses, straws and umbrellas (all purchasable in Poundland). The fruit should have a cut in it so it can either be skewered onto the straw, or slotted on the side of the glass.

Displaying photo 1.JPGYou also need bottles to hold them in, for which we used glass re-usable bottles from Ikea, and failing that milk bottles (sterilise). We then decorated these with a label which, as you will later see, matches the afternoon tea-party theme, 'Drink Me' and on the flip side the movie 'Shrek'. (You might also want to list ingredients if you know that some people might be allergic).

To top off the beginning of the party, lay out some chairs, a table, maybe, to sit round, and some small nibbles- and there you have the basis of a plan!

Displaying photo 2.JPGTry it out,
Truly xx

P.S. Small nibbles mean really small amounts as much more food is yet to come!

Disney Party: Creative Costumes Continued...

Displaying photo.JPG
Ariel takes on purple and
green...
...And if you like the styles shown- putting a modern twist and old Disney favourites- try your own designs!

Think about bringing them back to college?
Take their character traits a little further?
Contemplate whether you'd be willling to wear any of their clothes, and who you would be most like?
Displaying photo.JPG
Jasmine, Cindy and Belle dress
up normally, for once....

These examples shown are really bad (mostly because they took me about a minute) but if you dig deep, I'm sure you'll be able to come up with something amazing like these ones even...

Peter pan goes, well,
Peter Pan

Cindy goes chic...

Disney Party: Costume Crazy

As promised, todays blog is a continuation of the Disney-themed party Planning!

We're gonna be looking at costumes. YAAAAY!! Some ideas I gathered include:
  • Minions from Despicable Me
  • Snow White
  • Princess Jasmine from Aladdin
But hopefully with my guide, you'll  learn how to construct any Disney outfit using modern/ normal clothing from any high-street shops!

MINIONS: I know Despicable Me isn't strictly Disney, but... read my earlier post to understand.

Minions don't just look awesome but planning costumes in general is, seriously, really fun.

For this look, simply acquire:

  • short blue denim dungarees
  • yellow short-sleeve top
  • yellow tights/ long socks- optional
  • swimming goggles
  • any trainers
If you want to add extra, cut a yellow ribbon in half to tie in your plaits. Or draw and cut the Gru sign onto black card/paper and secure to dungarees with safety pin.

SNOW WHITE: Gather the following items:
  • yellow peter-pan (ironic, I know) collar
  • blue cropped top
  • yellow tutu/ maxi skirt/ mini skirt
  • red bow
  • black plimsolls or vans
This is the perfect
Princess Jasmine top-
all purchasable in New Look!
Improved with short black wig, easily purchasable at local party shop. For a step further, embrace a chosen colour being worn (e.g. red in the bow) and use the same coloured lippy, earrings and nails.
if you can't manage baggy
trousers- go for a pair
of cheap trackies like
these ones from
New Look!

PRINCESS JASMINE:
  • blue cropped top
  • blue baggy trousers/leggings
  • gold chain necklace
  • gold headband
  • pumps in same colour
Backcomb your hair in order to make it 'poof' more, and brush into a ponytail, with chosen gold hair-do to match Princess Jasmine's locks.

A modern take on Aurora
from Sleeping Beauty
...I think...
I wouldn't mind a jacket
like that!

What you most need to understand from this post is that, once you've grasped the basic colours, print and style from your chosen character, it's easy to make your own.

If you like the pictured designs shown, try some for yourself! Choose your fave Disney character and try to imagine what they might look like in real life, maybe, at school?

Truly xxx

Disney Party: The Beginning (planning)

Hey Guys!

I hope you're excited because what I have lined up for you over the next couple of days- although, knowing me, it could take years- is gonna be pretty epic, not gonna lie.

I am making an event-organiser:
DISNEY-THEMED PARTY (mainly for kids or teens) -or extended cartoon theme at least.

Because I have experienced the wrath of party-planning, I understand the effort needed to pull off such extreme greatness (and you should know that is the absolute minimum of what I tend to pull off) so for me, to blog, this may take a while; hold your breaths.

Some aspects we will certainly be covering- as well as others I cannot currently remember- include:

  • invites
  • costumes
  • food
  • cake- yes they are absolutely two separate aspects
  • decoration & general DIY
  • activities
  • party bags
Today, we are obviously gonna start from the top with what you might consider to be the 'boring invitation section' but with me becomes 'the seriously enjoyable section in which one can make awesome invites that will be remembered forever as seriously awesome invites by the invitees'! Are you ready...?

First things first though, a bit of advice: party-planning is always more fun when you have a friend to do with it- so whether you have a friend who is willing to help a tremendous amount or someone whose birthday is near the time of yours, get together and have some fun doing it!

Sticking with the disney theme -or basically extended cartoons- we found some Pooh invites to put a bit of childish fun back into the idea of a party. You can use any type of princess, cars or generally disney invites- purchasable anywhere.

You will need to include: What, When, Where, Who...

What: Only the best party EVER!!

When: Timings wise- obviously depends on when your birthday is, but is best in the hotter summer months- and I advise, as you will later find out, a tea party is best late afternoon.

Where: *Insert address here*

Who: is the fun bit! This is where you get to revenge your friends with giving them awful dress codes. What we did is give them three movie options to choose from. Maybe gross ones like The Croods and Shrek- that have a potential good side, for example, pretty little Fiona.

Also take the time to decide for yourself what you want to dress as!

Once you have filled all this in, put in a clearly marked envelope and deliver- take advantage of this excuse to do a little bit of exercise, walking around on foot maybe... or nah?

Look out for more great posts, and I know this may seem a little bit childish, but go for it! The phrase YOLO is a lie, because loving Disney is definetly not restricted to young ch
ildren only!

Yours,
Truly xxx
