ASL Ice-bucket challenge

Hallo friends,

My second post of the day is to encourage such a kind and selfless [and enjoyable] action as the ALS Ice-bucket challenge.

What you have to do is this:

The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one's head or donating to the ALS Association in the United States. It went viral throughout social media during the Northern-Hemisphere summer of 2014.

The challenge dares nominated participants to have a bucket of ice water poured on their head. One common stipulation gives 24 hours from the time they are nominated to complete the dare; otherwise, the participant is asked to donate money to charity.

My favourite celebrity attempts include:

Hugh Jackman (now bald for Peter Pan) takes it on
Charlie Sheen rather bravely gives it a go...

Can you...?

What is ALS:

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

How will your gift help:

Your gift will help The ALS Association support research to find a cure for ALS and provide much-needed services to patients and their families. By becoming a part of The ALS Association family and making your gift today, you will help sustain hope in thousands of people affected by ALS.

Yours,
Truly xxx

38. Have a massive bubble bath

#SaturdayStyles

Hello,

I am keeping very up to date with my Saturday Styles!

Model here wears:
I have shown this top so many times, but a little variation in grey maybe?
Reviwed in my August wish-list; a great way of subtly showing off those long, tanned [I hope] legs of yours with a bit of class balanced by style. You can also take advantage of the skort, by wearing it when taking part in your  exercise- the elegant way, without flashing dramatically.
Stunning caged, chunky, block-heel sandals are the trend, purchasable anywhere, but we found the perfect ones from New Look!
  • Kimono (with tassels)

  • Kimono's are TOTALLY this summer's THANG!! You can purchase them from top high street retailers, such as New Look's Cameo Rose/ Black Semi Sheer Floral Print Kimono for £19.99 or Topshop's Short Sleeve Kimono with Fringe Detail in Grey Blue.
Colour co-ordination is key in this style: as you can see. Grey.

The wrap shorts are in a monochrome houndstooth print. 'Houndstooth print' can be in any colour but looks best in black & white. Black & white, in this example, creates the illusion of a combination of these two colours; grey, matching the overall colour co-ordiantion of the outfit... result!

#SaturdayStyles

Heya!

This outfit is b-u-f-f (I know no-one ever says that anymore).

And, major alert, it's really easy to pull off because it's a bit of a grab-together outfit and if you've listened to any of my previous posts, you should already have most of the clothing pictured anyway (in varying forms) -hence the many hyperlinks below.

Guide to how to pull off ultimate look:

Step 1: Find gross, dirty checked top in older sibling/ dad's old wardrobe. Ensure it's too big- that's the key part of this style. Give it a wash.

Step 2: Grab a pair of shorts (we chose high-top khaki green ones).

Step 3: Grab a nice cropped top (we suggest buying this rib crop from Topshop because of its guarantee to be worn lots).  Featured here: http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/saturdaystyles_20.html and here http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/july-wish-list.html

Step 4: Accessorise!! We recommend (and have done several times) this black choker necklace from Topshop, featured here: http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/june-wish-list.html and here http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/saturdaystyles.html Plus +, velvet red scrunchie, featured here: http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/saturdaystyles_14.html
Let's strip it down bare: x1 rib crop tee
+ x1 pair of khaki green high-waisted shorts
+ x1 pair of burgundy sneakers
= :D
Please excuse borrowed plimsolls(!)

Step 5: No, there ain't one- it's as simple as 1, 2, 3, 4. Voila!

Yours,
Truly xxx

P.S. I got the day right for once!!

My Reviews: Books, books, books

Todays blog entry is for any of those who are a little dampened by the boredness that has now blossomed this summer holiday. It comes every year; the day you realise not every day of summer can be as great as you planned it to be (or not planned as the case may be).

But I promise I can make sumer JUST 100 times better for you, if only you listen to my writing. These book reviews are of books written for all audiences; age groups and gender. So just pick up a copy, when you see it, and give it a go.

The Bunker Diary

My friend recommended me this book. She told me it changed her life and her outlook on things. Forever. So I thought I might pick it up... Heads Up: it may also ruin you; ...but only for a few days.

The Blurb reads: "I can't believe I fell for it. It was still dark when I woke up this morning. As soon as my eyes opened I knew where I was. A low-ceilinged rectangular building made entirely of whitewashed concrete. There are six little rooms along the main corridor. There are no windows. No doors. The lift is the only way in or out. What's he going to do to me? What am I going to do? If I'm right, the lift will come down in five minutes. It did. Only this time it wasn't empty..."

The Fault In Our Stars, John Green

I know I'm a bit late on this one, but I've gotta tell you. The reviews and obsessions you've been hearing (probably 'heard') are completely accurate. I don't know how difficult it is to over-prepare you for the brilliant humour and genius writing-style of John Green from The Fault In Our Stars
- I'm going to see the film ASAP, so look forward to more of my reviews.

The Blurb reads: "Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot-twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Caner Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is a bout to be completely rewritten."

Markus Zusak reviewed it as, 'You laugh, you cry and then you come back for more'... and he was right. This leads me onto, however, his own book.

The Book Thief, Markus Zusak

You may also have seen the film that was released based upon this book. I'm sure it was amazing. But no film can portray the style of writing Markus Zusak adopted in this book. Written in the perspective of death, this book tells the story of a girl adopted into a home in Germany, during World War II.

The Blurb reads [although I cut it down a bit]: "IT IS 1939. NAZI GERMANY. THE COUNTRY IS HOLDING ITS BREATH. DEATH HAS NEVER BEEN BUSIER, AND WILL BECOME BUSIER STILL.

Liesel Meminger and her brother are being taken by their mother to live with a foster family outside Munich. On the journey, Death visits the young boy, and notices Liesel. It will be the first of many nearer encounters. By her brother's graveside, Liesel's life is changed when she picks up a single object, partially hidden in the snow.
So begins a love affair with books and words, as Liesel, with the help of her accordion-playing foster father, learns to read.
But these are dangerous times. When Liesel's foster family hides a Jewish fist-fighter in their basement, Liesel's world is both opened up, and closed down."

"The Book Thief" is a story about the power of words to make worlds. In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-wining author Markus Zusak has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.

Two Words: READ THEM ALL!! Sorry, that was three... not to good with adding [maths in general].

Truly xxx

August Wish-list

Isn't summer just great?
-Agreed?
Agreed.

Well, I have been in Spain and whilst I -previously in my life- [wasted] 2 years learning spanish at school, I found myself completely, beyond-the-point-of-help lost in their language, struggling with even 'simple' words like Gracias... or is it Grathias?

Anyway, I shall crack on with August's Awesome Styles:

Loving these light blue ripped cropped boyfriend jeans for just £10 from New Look! As you DO know, boyfriend/ mum jeans are so definitely this summer's must-haves so grab yourself a pair from the shops OR live up to the true name of these jeans, and borrow a pair from your boyfriend/ mum's old wardrobe. But now I'm gonna do a spot of my magnificent mind-reading and guess that you may be thinking [or not] that jeans are far too heavy for the summer. My answer: oh no! These jeans are a perfect balance, being slightly on the big side, they are an airy resolution.

Next, elegant black bardot slightly-off-the-shoulder crop top (also from New Look) is great to show off that post-holiday [fake] tan and adds a little excitement -even though it is only black- to an otherwise dull outfit. You can style this top with any of the below features: boyfriend jeans, paisley print tourers AND textured Jacquard wrap/ skort...

...Also add a bit of chunky jewellery like this 'luxury flower chunky exaggerated statement bib necklace' from £14.99 on ebay- or just look for something similar. PARFAIT! (my french is better than my spanish)

These gorgeous paisley print trousers are my favourite; great for all categories, from festival-goers, to stay-at-home bores (I know my single attempt at rhyming failed miserably) {"Oh my! Thats was an attempt to rhyme?"}, to jazzy style-hunters to vintage... peeps. Loose and light, on the slightly colder days, -and I can assure you that here in England, there absolutely will be 'slightly' (under-statement of the century) colder days- with a bonus stylish summer print; <3

This mint green Jacquard wrap skort is a great way of subtly showing off those long, tanned [I hope] legs of yours with a bit of class whilst continuing the pastel summer-colour trend. You can also take advantage of the skort, by wearing it when taking part in your  exercise- the elegant way, without flashing dramatically.

And pictured here is Nike's Hyper Poncho in Pink, from Urban Outfitters. OKAY, so it's £75, but... just look at it!  This poncho by sportswear legend Nike combines iconic and directional design with durable wearability, citing ‘90s influences for a contemporary yet retro look. Enough said...

...Yet, I'll have to add about the gorgeous shoes also <3 Not only are these Nike flyknit trainers attractive enough to make me actually want to do exercise (which I can assure is a miracle in itself), but if you do ever manage to do some exercise, they're spongy and bouncy and quite good fun to be honest!

Finally, these pink-lemonade Wolf & York wellies are a jazzy alternative to lighten up your festival style. Don't be boring and go with the dull green and black wellingtons -which deserve the long, boring name-, grab a pair of these from just £7.49 at surfdomeshop.

I hope you enjoy these styles just as much as I do,

Yours,
Truly xxx

Make-Up; Break-Up... Summer Styles

In this make-up review, we'll be recapping a bit from this July's Wish-list, as well as stirring in some completely new ideas, for a range of price brackets, themes and colourings.

July's wish-list (http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/july-wish-list.html) showed us:

For a pale-skinned ghost like me [cursed by her irish ascendants], sun-cream is inevitably, undeniable and unashamedly needed. So I'm going to have to arm you with it- but this deal isn't half bad. Not only does St Tropez Sun protection protect your skin from the sun (prevent burn and skin cancer later on in life), but it also comes with a built in tan enhancer: St.Tropez Sun Protection for Face With Tan Enhancer SPF30, for just £15 from Boots. "This velvety cream simply melts into the skin, helping to protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays."

You must know by now how very much 'in' pastel colours are- if you don't then you really need to catch up! So, continuing with the 'in' theme, I present to you three Mavala Mini Colour Nail Polishes in only the best colours. These cost £4.75 per bottle (of 5ml) from Boots, but you can probably get them cheaper at your local Beauty Base!

I'm adding to that with: Neon Hair Chalk Sets from Urban Outfitters in a range of jazzy colours to brighten up your day (and hair) this festive season. £6 for 6 sticks. OR, you can get 2 pastel hair chalks (per set) for £4 from Primark! So, if you don't want long-lasting dye for you hair, use these fun, wash-in/wash-out sets in beaut colours.

You've probably also heard of Eos Lip Balm Spheres. These come in multiple colours and flavours. This innovative lip balm sphere is brought to you by EOS, the Evolution of Smooth. Held in a compact roll-on applicator, this minty shea butter-based formula will give your lips the moisture they crave. You can also try Strawberry Pink or Blueberry! Purchasable in Urban Outfitters, Primark and River Island.

Item 5 is Atlantis Eye Palette, from the Core Collection in Topshop, for £12. Four complimentary, highly pigmented eye shadow colours that can be worn alone or built and blended together to create different looks. Apply with the applicator or eye shadow brush.

Yours,
Truly xxx

P.S. Apologies for not posting... I've been on holiday PARTAAYING- I know no-one says 'partaaying' anymore but just roll with it)
