July Wish List

Don't lie, you have been waiting for the sequel to my first monthly wish list (http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/june-wish-list.html), haven't you?

So here it is! At last! The guide you have all been waiting for to get you through summer! And what a packed one it is.

Item numero uno: circular sunglasses. Not only are these a necessity to avoid getting the oh-so-familiar-around-the-eye-tan-line, but they are also incredibly funky and stylish and can be worn to embrace and compliment face shapes of all shapes and sizes. ( ) Whether you try black or white, striped or plain, these are absolutely a must-have this summer.

Item dos: (also pictured), I am LOVING this turquoise/ blue rib crop tee for £8 from Topshop. Along with the season of summer, Britain's weather can also sometimes strive for greatness; so get out the belly with this gorgeous tee. Featured in last week's #SaturdayStyles:  http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/saturdaystyles_20.html

Item tres: For a pale-skinned ghost like me [cursed by her irish ascendants], sun-cream is inevitably, undeniable and unashamedly needed. So I'm going to have to arm you with it- but this deal isn't half bad. Not only does St Tropez Sun protection protect your skin from the sun (prevent burn and skin cancer later on in life), but it also comes with a built in tan enhancer: St.Tropez Sun Protection for Face With Tan Enhancer SPF30, for just £15 from Boots. "This velvety cream simply melts into the skin, helping to protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays."

Ummm... I can't count any further than 3 in Spanish!! 4: So, scrolling through New Look website (a common past time of mine) and I spot THESE: stunning monochrome stripe leggings... they may be teens, but I'm sure I can fit [squeeze]. Particularly for those of you are- how shall I put it delicately- 'vertically challenged', this pattern creates the perfect illusion of long, thin legs by emphasising the length downwards rather than outwards. AND, they're only on £5- personally, I don't understand why they aren't already out of stock!

5: You must know by now how very much 'in' pastel colours are- if you don't then you really need to catch up! So, continuing with the 'in' theme, I present to you three Mavala Mini Colour Nail Polishes in only the best colours. These cost £4.75 per bottle (of 5ml) from Boots, but you can probably get them cheaper at your local Beauty Base!

6: LOVE these high-rise, cropped jeans in acid wash from Urban Outfitters for £30 (reduced from £50). Mum jeans like these are all the rage so either grab yourself  new pair, or borrow (borrow means to keep) literally your mum's ones, that don't quite fit et voila! Wear with trainers or sneaker, but not pumps. Perfect for summer too, with a balance between weight and airy.

7: Finally, also from Urban Outfitters, this 'Truly Madly Deeply Between Two Worlds' Tank Top in peculiar (but nice) shade of green. Whilst I understand spending £28, nearly the same as a pair of jeans on sale, is a little on the expensive side for a tee-shirt, this is absolutely an investment into fashion. Nice print, nice colour; combines indie with a nice shade of summer; the ultimate July investment.

Now, I regret to inform you that I may not be posting over the next couple of weeks, as I AM going on holiday (which is the part I absolutely don't regret to inform you of), so don't worry, I haven't died- just taking a break.

Happy Holidays!

Yours,
Truly xxx

#SaturdayStyles

A bit of a childish outfit today to look at (and remember from the past):
...it's simple!
No new clothes to buy!
...Just a lot of wardrobe-digging to be completed...

Here we have:
  • funky pink circular sunglasses
  • light blue/ turquoise rib crop tee, £8 from Topshop
  • pale (worn/ faded) purple short dungarees
This outfit can be worn with fun sneakers from Primark and colourful make-up, e.g. dotted war paint or bold purple lipstick for a childish and interesting style.

You can also use the same clothing ideas to style a completely different look:

  • the same funky pink circular sunglasses
  • the same light blue/ turquoise rib crop tee, £8 from Topshop
  • black dip-hem black skirt, £14.99 from H&M
This outfit can be worn with black choker necklace and creeper /loafer/ brogues (both shown previously) for a more gothic or subtle style.

Truly Scrumptious: Raspberry Ripple Ice-Cream & Hot Chocolate Sauce

Sooo, one of the items on my list of 100 things to do this sumer (and generally something I've been really wanting to do) is make ice cream.

Check out the 100 Item List here: http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/100-things-to-do-this-summer_3.html

Here is my very simple guide to make your own ice cream.

Vanilla & Raspberry Ice Cream

Method 1: If you have an ice-cream machine (proves useful):

To Prepare:

You must put the ice-cream bowl in the freezer for a minimum of 8 hours (or overnight) before making the ice-cream. This freezes the water to make the bowl perfect conditions for ice-cream making!

You will need:
  • 425g Ready Made Custard
  • 290g Double Cream
  • Caster Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of Vanilla Extract
How to:
  1. Firstly, combine the double cream and custard.
  2. Then, add the sugar and vanilla extract.
  3. Next, add raspberries (mashed).
  4. After, pour into a mug to store in the fridge for a half an hour before freeze-churning.
  5. Pour into machine and turn on paddle for 5 minutes.
  6. Place in freezer for 3-4 hours.
  7. Remove from freezer about half and hour before eating.

Method 2: If you don't have an ice-cream machine (you still need a freezer/ fridge)

To Prepare:

Prepare a large bowl filled (about half-way) with cold water- as cold as possible, but not frozen.

You will need:
  • the same ingredients!
How to:
  1. Complete steps 1-3 as normal.
  2. Mix thoroughly using wooden spoon.
  3. Pour the mixture into a water-proof container, which should be placed in the bowl of cold water in the freezer.
Store the ice-cream in the freezer until it needs to be served.

This ice-cream tastes even better with some white chocolate added in before placing in the freezer (if you have any!)

Hot Chocolate Sauce

You will need:

150g Plain/ cooking chocolate (break into pieces)
25g Caster Sugar (I used granulated)
25g Unsalted Butter, at room temperature (again, it doesn't HAVE to be room temperature!)

Method 1: (If you have a microwave)
  1. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a microwavable bowl, for about 2 minutes (stir half way through).
  2. Then add the sugar and stir.

Method 2: (If you dont have a microwave- you must have a cooker!)

  1. Put the chocolate, sugar and four tablespoons of water in a small saucepan.
  2. Melt the chocolate at a low heat as it burns easily, but gradually increase the heat as you go, before adding the butter.
When chocolate has melted enough, you can add cream to loosen and make less thick.

Serve hot over ice cream for a delicious combination of textures, temperatures and tastes!

You can eat the ice-cream alone with sauce, or serve to accompany a crumble, or add a wafer for that extra bite!

Yours,
Truly (Scrumptious) xxx

#SaturdayStyles

Hallo Freunde (I'm thinking of learning German, what do you think?)

It's supposed to be Saturday, but it's Sunday... so what? I'm feeling rebellious

My Saturday Styles [yesterday] was a pretty damn cool outfit. Bet you're excited!
...
OK, so it's not THAT summery (not meaning to rain on the spirit of things) but I like it all the same!

We have:

Found this gorgeous mint green plain bow-back bralet from New Look for just £7.99- one word: GORGEOUS!

You can buy scurnchies from anywhere- I got mine from Boots, where they come in packs of two, and are of a soft, velvety texture- although Urban Outfitters do stylish ones too.

I bought this faux-leather mini skirt from Asos but be warned, it didn't come out looking as it did on the website!

And finally my shoes: "black creepers with brogue/ loafer style embroidery" can be viewed more easily here... http://trewleesensational.blogspot.co.uk/search?updated-max=2014-05-31T02:55:00-07:00&max-results=500 ... I call them [drumroll please] loa-bro-pers

For make-up, I would go for thick and heavy, winged eyeliner with deep/ bold coloured lipstick; purple, bright red or even, if you wanna push the trends, black!

Truly xxx

#SaturdayStyles

Ciao!

Today's Saturday Styles is based partially on the theme of 'The Outsiders', a book by S.E. Hinton.

If you haven't read the book or seen the film already, you should.

So, this outfit consists of:
  • Red Checked Shirt, [from Topshop]
  • Light blue skinny/stretch jeans, [£7.00 from Primark]
  • Pale blue bandana, [from Tiger/ Claire's/ River Island]
  • Black & White loom band; my friend made me :') -you can buy bands [from Poundland]
  • Burgundy sneakers, £4.70 [from Primark]
  • White strappy top, purchasable [anywhere] (to go underneath)
  • Black Choker necklace with pearl, £6.50 [from Topshop]

However, it's easy to change bits and pieces to still pull off an awesome vintage outfit. I recommend the vintage section of Urban Outfitter, a collection from Topshop and fill in the missing pieces with Primark.

You could try going for double denim (like those pictured) with either a denim bomber jacket/ mum jeans/ denim shirt.

Or for that added affect, rip the sleeves and collar off an old tee.

Though my sneakers were burgundy, you can wear black or white and contrasting socks.

Wear your hair greased back or backcombed and hold in place with either a bandana, like mine, or hairspray. A bandana can be worn in a range of colours, but go for duller ones like blue (light or dark), red or grey...

Yellow, as you can see, isn't that nice. And if you wanna look like a man, tie your hair up in a messy bun and secure with bobby pins.

You can also try a pair of aviator sunglasses for that little bit extra.

For make-up, don't be afraid to go heavy on the eyeliner, or try some bold lippy, but other than that, none necessary.

Yours,
Truly xxx
